Following on from Carl Worline's list of "False Prophet" alerts - here is a video clip fro Jason A about this very subject. It's a short clip and very revealing.
It has always, always amazed me how so many people are sucked in by the likes of The Bakkers and their ilk. I had to blink several times whenever these heavily made-up, blatantly insincere people appeared on the television. The difference between false prophets and money makers is paper thin. The money makers tend to stick to the Bible but use every other trick in the book to extract money out of gullible people. These types are revolting. Sneaky charlatans. False prophets are just blatant charlatans. They don't care about Bible accuracy at all. The people of Africa (I speak of Southern Africa as I know it well) are easy victims for this sort of thing. Their tribal beliefs are full of legends about evil spirits, evil imps, ancestor worship etc. They grow up in fear. They have seen many things and belief in the supernatural comes easy to them. The Roman Catholic church sent thousands of missionaries to Africa and you will find hundreds of thousands of African Catholics on that continent. This hasn't helped. Robert Mugabe was reared and educated as a devout Roman Catholic. 'Nuff said.
The poverty stricken, gentle and gullible African people have been ripped off by false prophets for decades. I know most people don't perceive Africa having gentle people because of media coverage and the endless list of savage war mongers that have ruled n Africa. But the normal African is gentle with a delicious sense of humour.
This video clip made me sad and depressed. The success of the likes of Dr Owuor has made me sad and depressed for a long time. He personifies the type of preacher that proliferates in Africa. The whole "personality cult" of idolising a preacher belongs in the dark ages, from which it sprang.
