I see the second Passover this coming week as a very high watch time.
I came across an insight from Daniel at Informed Christians that the Passover mentioned in the first part of John 6 is actually the second Passover.
John 5:1 mentions Jesus going up to Jerusalem for a feast of the Jews. I think this was first Passover. The Torah required attendance. The Passover in John 6:4, I believe is the second Passover because Jesus did not go to it but instead headed north to Tiberius. This is a huge clue.
Also, the boy in John 6 was going to eat barley loaves for lunch. However, this could only be done after the first month's Feast of Firstfruits, which is after the first month's Passover. (This assumes those loaves were not made from year old barley). The account in John 6 is before a Passover.
Also, in John 6, Jesus is going to be a miraculous source of bread for a large group of people. This echos back to when God first gave Israel manna on the 15th day of the second month back in Exodus. Similar timing. I think Jesus was feeding the group this way and at this time, in part, to fulfill that "type". In verse 31 it shows that the people figured that out as well. However, they only wanted Jesus to be a "free bread" vending machine, not a source of eternal Life to them.
What has gotten me excited about second Passover for us is the content of the entire chapter of John 6, especially what is on Jesus' mind and heart to convey to the people at that time.
Themes of: the Father sending Him, all those belonging to Jesus coming to Him, Jesus losing none, and Jesus resurrecting folks on the last day, are throughout the chapter. Why bring all of this up at that time . . . unless . . . He is giving us a kind of heads-up?
The Father sending Jesus (and His coming out of heaven) is mentioned in verses 29, 32, 33, 38, 39, 41, 50, 51, 57, and 58. Might this theme also find fulfillment in the Father sending Jesus out of heaven to finally fetch His bride?
People "coming" to Jesus, responding to the Father's revelation, is seen in verses 35, 37, 44, 45, and 65. Might this theme also find fulfillment in our responding to the "come up here" of Rev 4:1 at the rapture?
Jesus resurrecting folks is seen in verses 39, 40, 44, and 54. Might this theme find fulfillment in the idea of raising the dead in Christ?
Verse 50 includes the idea of "not dying". Might this find fulfillment in the idea of those of us alive at His coming being taken up and not experiencing death?
In John 6 Jesus also mentions that those who come to Him will never hunger and never thirst. Might this find fulfillment in our hearts being filled in His presence, finally standing before Him face to face?
Now, there is a likelihood that John 6 may be referring to two actually different but very similar events. One event concerns His coming for His Bride and one for when He comes to earth at His second coming for remnant Israel seven years later.
In terms of Jesus' second coming, I am of the belief that He will come on a fall Feast of Trumpets to put down and finally end man's rebellion at Armegeddon, but Jesus will be formally received (crowned) by remnant Israel later on in the spring.
Starting in that prior fall season, after Armegeddon, there will be a lot of dead bodies to deal with. I wonder if it will take about 7 months to bury them all as also was mentioned as needing to be done after the earlier battle of Gog/Magog per Ezekiel 38 and 39.
If so, remnant Israel will have handled a lot of dead bodies during that fall and winter, and they may not have enough time to be ritually purified in time for the first Passover. I wonder if they will end up celebrating the Feast of Unleavened Bread at the second Passover for two weeks with great joy before Jesus, just like Israel had to do with King Hezekiah in 2 Chronicles 30. I wonder if it will be at this time that people such as Daniel will be raised on the "last day", before the full reign of Christ on earth, like Jesus mentioned in John 6.
7 years prior to that, might Jesus also have us celebrate two weeks of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, also during a second Passover, before Him with great joy in heaven when we will finally no longer have to deal with temptation, the fallen flesh state, or the evil one and his minions? Might this last day resurrection be the last day of the church age for us?
In other words, John 6 may be pointing to two similar events, and at similar times of the year. One will be for the bride of Christ and one will be for remnant Israel.
In 1 Corinthians 11:26, Paul mentions that as often as we eat the bread and drink the cup in a Passover remembrance, we proclaim His death (the covenant) til Jesus comes. Here, Jesus' coming for us is tied to Passover. (This would also apply for second Passover). Could the clue as to the timing of when Jesus comes for us have been that simple and clear cut all along?
But why second Passover for us? Well, second Passover was not only for those who were impure at the time of first Passover (referring to Israel), but it was also for those who had been away on a long journey. Might that include Jesus? In light of this thought, what I find interesting is something mentioned by an adulterous woman in Proverbs 7:19 and 20. Her husband was away on a long journey and was due to come back on a full moon. Passover is at the time of the full moon.
Jesus is worthy of our "continually watching".
