Last week I dicussed 2 topics;
- How Modern Day Greeks interpret "apostacia" in 2 Thess 2:3. How "apostacia" means "apostacy" and how it cannot mean "rapture" to Greek speakers.
- What 1st-4th century Greek speaking Christians, and Latin/Aramaic speakers said about 2 Thess 2:3.
And I mentioned that I could not find an example of a partial trib web site in Greek. Well...I found one. At http://www.artos-zois.gr/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=89:2011-10-19-20-54-54&catid=35:2011-02-21-15-44-42&Itemid=71 is a web site arguing in favor of a partial pre-trib rapture. It says,
"The rapture of the church will take only those living believers who behave like the five wise virgins in the parable of the ten virgins " (English translation of above Greek web site)
This is one of the arguments made by many Americans as well. It is not significantly different from what you have heard before, but because I told you I had never seen a partial trib site in Greek and because I found this one, I thought I'd post the correction so you can see that the diversity of thought does indeed exist.
There is one bit of a caveat. This was posted by the Free Apostolic Church of Pentecost , which is a brake away from the American Assemblies of God. Some post-trib folks might argue that this is an example of American thought being imported into Greece due to the American origins of the denomination involved. However I think that might miss the greater picture here, which is the supportability of the diversity of thought. We can send all the ideas their way we want, but the only ideas that will survive with live in proportion to their supportability in the Greek text.
Where there is diversity of opinion, we are probably dealing with the interpretation of the text, and not the translation thereof. Anytime someone tells you they can "prove" a doctrine with a "correct" translation everyone else has rejected, keep in mind they have messed up somewhere if the majority of believers who speak that language don't agree with them.
