Louis,You asked a great question!
"What does the Holy Ghost say?"
II Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
II Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
John 17:17 ¶ Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
If we want to know what the Holy Ghost says, all we have to do is read it, he is the real author of the scriptures. That is a more sure word of prophecy than some guy on TV claiming to be speaking "new revelation truth" from the Holy Ghost.I used to be more inclined to the TV version of the Holy Ghost, with special effects that were almost "Spielberg-esque".However, the real Holy Ghost had men write down, what he, the Holy Ghost, inspired to be written.I do have to believe that the scriptures are true and from him. However, I don't have to believe every TV preacher claiming to speak for the Holy Ghost.
Also, I used to blame the Holy Ghost for all my urges.I used to tell my fellow believers that I "felt led" about his, or that I "felt led" about that.Of course, by using the word "led", I had convinced them that I had been "led" by the Hoy Ghost. That really made me "look spiritual" in their eyes. However, actually I was passing off my urges of the flesh, as leadings of the Holy Ghost."Shades of Ananias & Sapphira, Batman!"Good thing that the real Holy Ghost didn't kill me, like them.
Also, what about the secretly coveting the power of the Holy Ghost, like Simon did?
Acts 8:19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.
In and of itself it sounded like so many of us today.Did I, in the secret of my heart, covet the power of the Holy Ghost?Of course to all the brethren, I knew exactly how to speak, to convince them otherwise.I could fool them that I was not another Simon, but what about the real secret buried in my heart?
My, my! Thank the LORD that has been very merciful to me!He could have treated me like Ananias, Sapphira, Simon, or even like one of the sons of Sceva. However, instead, the LORD has had mercy upon me.
