"My earthquake
experiences"
Dear Doves,
I live in Oklahoma. We used to have approximately 50 earthquakes
each year, most of them at a magnitude that was minimal and
barely felt by anyone.
In the year 2010, we had over 1,000 of them. That is a HUGE
increase. This year, we have experienced another big increase so
far, and many of them at a magnitude greater than normal. In
fact, several of them felt by the greater part of the state(5.6
magnitude), and even farther in Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and
Texas. I have even read of people who felt tremors from beyond
the neighboring states.
On Saturday morning 11/5/11, at around 2:12 a.m. or so in the
morning, I experienced my first ever earthquake. It was more
like a shock wave: quick and noisy. The biggest one, 11/6/11 at
around 10:30 p.m., was very long (over a minute) and rattled
everything in the house.
I have felt other aftershocks (or are they aftershocks?)since
these. Since 11/5/11, we have had 31 quakes.
Quite a BIG difference: going from 50 earthquakes a year and
barely detected, to over a thousand in one year, to over thirty
quakes in less than FIVE DAYS!!
Makes me wonder if all the 11’s I have seen over the years
relate at all to my experiences here in the month of November?
