"Franklin Graham's
idea for helping Sudan refugees"
Franklin Graham's organization has been trying to
get food and water in to the refugees in the mountains on the
border of Sudan and Southern Sudan. Southern Sudan, you
may remember, formed its own country, largely
Christian and supportive of Israel. Dictator Bashir of the
northern Sudan has been bombing these people so they
can't come out of caves where they are hiding and plant
crops. Many are making their way to refugee camps,
hundreds a day, in Southern Sudan, and thus are abandoning their
farms and not planting crops. Before this they
were self-sustaining.
Graham told Greta Van Susteren of a "simple" way to help these
refugees. He said to bomb or in somewhat disable
the air fields of dictator Bashir. Then his killer planes
could not take off on bombing raids.
I do not watch Fox News or CNN or any other news on TV any more,
but I read this article by Greta Van Susteren,
passing along Reverend Grahams's "simple idea." I don't
know how we could be involved in this, but perhaps letters
would help--to whom? Our representatives often do not pay
attention to us now, do they?
Greta said we are primarily concerned about atrocities in Syria,
but perhaps we should also be concerned about these
Sudanese. Many of them, as I said, are Christians, and
they are avowed supporters of Israel. I wonder if, in
these
delicately balanced times, Israel would dare to bomb the
airfields of Bashir, so he can't continue his genocide?
Can
we expect Israel, so hemmed in, to step up to this task?
Needless to say, if Israel bombed the airfields of this Muslim
dictator, the Muslim world would be inflamed. Or at least
those Muslims who do not know the full story, are not being told
the story of these innocent farmers being destroyed,
probably so that Bashir can win control of oil reserves in the
border region of Sudan/Southern Sudan. As my son
says,
many Muslims do not want to kill people like this, but their
leaders inflame them with hate.
Perhaps it is better in God's eyes NOT to be a leader, not to be
in a position to inflame one's people to hate others.
