"Re Frank Molver"
Frank,
I think someone who has been saved and born again WILL NOT WANT
to continue in the lifestyle of a sinner, whether that sin is
homosexuality, drunkenness, thievery, etc. because the Holy
Spirit will constantly be convicting that person through the
conscience to produce works that demonstrate their faith.
Faith without works is dead (James 3:17,20, James 2:24,26). So
the person would would begin changing the lifestyle. It may be
difficult to do and require assistance from others or
organizations, or specially-oriented Christian churches trained
to assist with such changes, but I definitely would want to see
some evidence of a genuine rebirth experience. Of course,
continued backsliding and sinning would be expected, to some
extent, followed by repentance and forgiveness (1 John 1:9). All
born-again believers are still sinners and in need of daily
confession of new sins.
But, during the time of change, it would be un-Christian to stop
loving and caring for these individuals. During that process it
should be absolutely clear that we are not sanctioning the
sinful behavior or providing an excuse for it to continue. This
is not the intention at all.
Frank, I do not know if this makes my position any clearer. I
have not had to deal with this particular topic in my personal
situation and life so I cannot speak from experience in any way
whatsoever. I think others who are more knowledgeable on this
topic could speak to the opinions I stated above, and that would
be helpful. However, the principles I espouse are to be found in
the Bible and clearly state that homosexuality as a lifestyle is
sinful and not acceptable to the Lord at all. But repentant
sinners who want to change, and can provide some evidence that
they are serious, from such a lifestyle are very acceptable to
the Lord and He will help them, as should we also.
YBIC,
Robert
