Hi Gerry,I tried posting after reading your post to me but it didn't post. Hopefully this one will. Personally, this is how I see this passage of scripture:The foundation: The Gospel of Christ (proclaims He came to set man free from sin upon believing in Him).Building upon that foundation: The Doctrine of Christ (our work; substantiates the Gospel, therefore it must instruct how to cease from sin).Gold, Silver, Precious Stones, Wood, Hay, Stubble: Things of the world most use to build upon the Gospel other than the true doctrine of Christ, which cannot give His expected result for our lives, that being: holiness.15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire: I see this verse referencing Matt. 3: 11-12, and through our allowance, being obedient to His correction, as in Heb. 12: 5-8.His expectation of us who call Him by His name is that we depart from iniquity; that we cease from sin, even as His doctrine instructs, and substantiates His Gospel, which must be His expectation, for He declared it, and His word does not return to Him void, but accomplishes that which He sent it. If His word declares something, then He must have an expected end, and this case, He declared in His Gospel that He came to make us free from the sins of the flesh, which by our DOING of the true doctrine of Christ, makes us free, but only if we do it.A Reward: Eternal life for being a doer of the true doctrine of Christ, which makes us holy:"And holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord" (Heb. 12: 14).Let me know your thoughts,In Christ,Greg
