"Newton’s Interpretation of Daniel 9"

Dear John and Doves:

Sir Isaac Newton had a unique take on Daniel 9, which is not understood by most in today’s Church; however, we believe Newton could be correct.  If he is, then what you are about to read may be extremely important.

We recently received an interpretation from Brother Wuilmer Garcia who lives in Colombia.   We normally do not promote the setting of a date for the Lord’s return; however Brother Garcia’s findings appear to line up with what we believe Newton taught regarding Daniel’s prophecies.

Newton believed that Daniel was telling us the time of Christ’s first coming, as well as the timing of His second coming.  The attached summary of Daniel’s seventy weeks shows there were three different starting points that scholars have noted: 457 BC, 445 BC and 437 BC.  All three point to the time when Jesus came, and terminate at various times relating to Christ’s birth or the start of His ministry.

Those who use the 457 BC date have discovered that the 69 weeks of solar years end with the time that Christ was baptized.  Three and one-half years later He was crucified, which was half way through the 70th week.  The next 3 ½ years the Good News was preached to the Jews until they finally rejected Christ and stoned Stephen (see Isaiah 65:1-7, 66:1-4).  Those who use this starting date (as well as those who use the 445 BC date) believe the entire 70 years were completed at Stephen’s death.  Importantly, the Messiah was cut-off after the 62 weeks were completed (in this case 3 ½ years later).

Others use the 445 BC date to begin; however, they convert the 69 weeks to lunar years giving us a total of 476 years.  This ends the same way the previous dating does; however the timing is around the year 31 AD instead of 27/28 AD.  While the timing is different, the important point is that the Messiah was cut-off after the 62 weeks were completed.  Finally some use the 437 BC date and note that the 62 weeks (434 years) end with the birth of Christ around 3/2 BC.

Interestingly, Newton predicted: “About the time of the end, a body of men will be raised up who will turn their attention to the Prophecies, and insist upon their literal interpretation, in the midst of much clamor and opposition.”

While we do not agree with all of his findings, we believe Brother Garcia’s material could be very important as we approach the time of our Lord’s soon return.  We are including his findings on our website because there may be little time before the Lord comes for His faithful, watching bride.

Keep Looking UP!
