Not content with the idea that our most recent pope is NOT PETRUS ROMANUS, some people have tried to insert a "Peter" into his name using false associations of one sort or another.
One is that his last name is "Bergoglio", and Berg means "mountain", which is the same thing as "rock". Well, no, it is not the same thing. Many mountains are made of pure earth and have no rock to them. Also, "Berg" does not have to be a mountain, it can be a hill, heap, pile, or something rather small. It can be pure dirt, trash, or anything, whereas a "rock" is made of a well defined material. Berg is the equivalent of the Hebrew "Har", not the equivalent of the Hebrew "Kefah", which was Peter's name in Hebrew.
Another false attempt is to claim that he took the name of Francis of Assissi, and that his middle name was Peter (which is not true). Francis of Assissi does not have a middle name of Peter. His father's name was Peter, and in some accounts he is listed as "Francesco Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone". That is listing "Peitro" as his Dad, and Bernardone as his family surname. "di" means "of", but some people, not knowing what it means, think its all part of his name. But "di Petro" means his father's name was Pietro. but no, you don't gain an astounding and amazing link to the name "Peter" by taking the name Francis, you do that by taking the name "Peter".
I suspect other attempts to link him to the name "Peter" will arise even more remote than these two. But why would G-d prophecy something in the 12th century, then make it hard as anything to see it fulfilled by hiding that name in such an inconspicuous way? I think it is probably smarter to jsut realize he doesn't fit the bill.
Shalom,
Joe
