"Pope Francis Uses Name of St. Francis of Assisi whose Middle Name Was Peter"

Saint Francis of Assisi, Italian San Francesco d’Assisi, baptized Giovanni, renamed Francesco, original name Francesco di Pietro (Peter) di Bernardone. Francis was the son of Pietro (Peter) di Bernardone, a cloth merchant, and the lady Pica, who may have come from France.
(It's interesting that Pope Francis I took the name Francis from St. Francis of Assisi whose middle name was Peter, and whose father's first name was Peter also.)
