"MARTHA  AND MARY"

              TO ALL DOVES:

MARTHA AND MARY

LUKE 10: 38-42

As I have looked at this story it seems to me that as I have meditated upon it that Martha is a type of the Christian that thinks that service, volunteerism, work busy, and doing the works of the flesh is the thing that will get them into heaven. The first thinks that outward appearances is what Jesus is looking for (Martha) instead of the inward condition of the heart (Mary).

Mary on the other hand is the symbol of the Christian that is relying on the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross. She has laid it all down at the Master's feet for Him to do the work of the Holy Spirit in and through her.

Martha is working her Salvation. She is concerned about the outside of the cup.

Mary is believing by faith that she is Saved by the Blood of the Lord Jesus. She is concerned about the inside of the cup.

These are types of the two sets of virgins. Five being foolish : those that think they can “work” their way to heaven. And the other Five Wise Virgins that are filled with the Holy Spirit and sealed by God by the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Also they depict the two different categories of works: Law and Grace.
