ASCENSION PSALM 120  c.m.

1.  In my distress to God I cried,
And he gave ear to me.
From lying lips and guileful tongue,
O Lord, my soul set free.

2.  What shall be given thee, or what
Be done to thee, false tongue?
Ev'n burning coals of juniper,
Sharp arrows of the strong.

3.  Alas for me, that I abide
In Mesech's land so long!
That I in tabernacles dwell,
To Kedar that belong.

4.  My soul with him that hateth peace
Hath long a dweller been.
I am for peace, but when I speak,
For battle they are keen.

ASCENSION PSALM 120  l.m.

1.  In my distress I cried to God.
My earnest cry Jehovah heard -
>From lying lips and tongue of fraud,
Deliver thou my soul, O Lord.

2.  To thee, false tongue, what shall be done?
What for thy lies a fit return?
Sharp arrows of a mighty one,
With coals of juniper that burn.

3.  Alas for me that I so long
Sojourn with Mesech's godless race,
And near the tents of Kedar's throng
Am forced to make my dwelling-place.

4.  I long have made my dwelling-place
With such as seek my peace to mar.
With them I fain would live in peace,
But when I speak, they are for war.
