I just found out why and how....Our delightful friend Josephus says in Antiquities book 5 ch 3 that Dan was driven off their land by the Cananites so they established the city of Dan a days journey from the Phoenician city of Sidon....... being city dwellers, they needed employment so some of them went to sea with the Tyre and Sidonian Phoenicians sailing across the world.....
