Maryland, the microcosm of American Apathy
Small Businesses received a letter from the Maryland government
a couple of months ago that said due to the unemployment fund
being insolvent, small business contributions would increase to
offset the difference. A couple of weeks ago, the Maryland State
House passed a bill to legalize same sex marriage, and the
governor signed it into law. Now, against the backdrop of
extremely high unemployment, government insolvency, a
homeowners' crisis, the Democratic governor of Maryland is
suggesting adding another 20 cents per gallon tax for gasoline
to already one of the highest pump prices in the country. Nobody
does anything about it. It's like Marylanders are government
zombies.
The Democratic-controlled State House in Maryland is even
one-upping the governor, who also proposed tax increases on "the
rich." State Senate Democrats amended that legislative proposal
to include an across-the-board income tax increase in addition
to another half dozen tax and fee increases. In Frederick
County, arguably the most conservative county in Maryland (only
about 50 miles from the White House), there are only two
Democratic state officeholders. Both of them supported the same
sex marriage bill, which not only went against a vast and
decided majority of those who elected them, but also were
deciding votes in getting the bill passed.
Citizens in Maryland are beside themselves. They are becoming
more and more angry. But they lack the will to do anything
substantial about this oppressive tyrannical system. There are
so many who consider themselves Democrats that they keep pulling
the lever for these scoundrels without a thought of the cost of
that vote. Those who vote Republican are hoping upon hope that
their vote will help at least establish a loyal and vocal
opposition. It doesn't because the Republicans have learned the
game so well that the only way they have any power is to give in
to compromise with the socialists and communists that make up
the Democratic party. Hence, Maryland, the microcosm of American
Apathy.
Moses' father in law Jethro gave some sound advice in Exodus
18:21 to "provide able men, such as fear God, men of truth,
hating covetousness" to rule over the people. We can sign
petitions against homosexual marriage and higher taxes all we
want. But the evils of men who covet your hard earned
possessions, who lie and steal through the laws they make, and
who not only do not fear God, but mock him, will continue until
they are stopped. It appears we have become so civilized and so
apathetic about our responsibility as citizens that we allow
these evil people to become candidates, get elected, and we fear
the consequences of holding them accountable. Sound like
America? Our first job is to repent and fear God ourselves, then
we need to clean house--and that takes will and action.
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!
