"ADDENDUM:  Psalm 2:1- 9,  82:8, and 83:1-18"

This is an addendum to the message I recently posted on Psalm 83.  I did not write it.  It was written by a friend, who is an excellent Bible student.

                 ADDENDUM: Psalm 2:1- 9,  82:8, and 83:1-18

Psalm 82:8 ......"Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt "inherit" all nations."

In order to understand Ps. 82:8 and 83:1-18 and their "timing" we also have to look and compare them with Ps. 2:1- 9, since they both contain content which is directly connected to one another.  The "continuing theme" and context of Psalm 2 is also in Psalm 83. But first we need to ask the following questions.  I have to build a foundation of "thought" here first so you can "connect the dots."  It may seem non-important, trivial, and even basic to some, but bare with me and I will show you the connection.

Question: When was the "last time" that God judged the earth?
Answer: During the Genesis flood.

Question: Was God judging the earth under the Old Covenant?
Answer: NO!  He was dealing directly with Israel whom He chose and "called out" from among the heathen nations.  God had to deal with Israel's enemies many times who encompassed the borders of the land, but He was NOT judging the world at that time. His dealings with Israel's enemies were only "regional" and NOT global in scope.

Question: Is God judging the earth at this present time?
Answer: NO!  Why?  Because the "age of grace / Church age" is not complete yet.  The "restrainer" ( which indwells the body of Christ who is the Holy Spirit ) must be removed first ( 2Thess. 2:7 ).

Question:  When will God "arise and judge the earth" once again?
Answer: After the "restrainer" is removed and the Church is evacuated from the earth, which allows the Day of the Lord / Tribulation period to begin and of which concludes with the second advent of Christ to the earth.  At that time He will judge Israel and the Gentile nations who survived the judgment period ( Matt. 25:1 - 46 ).  As long as the "restrainer" is here present within the "body of Christ",  then there is no way that God can begin His judgment program.  The Church age has to be completed and the age of grace conclude FIRST, and then "all Israel will be saved" ( Rom. 11:25 - 27 ).

Now lets look at Psalm 82:8......" Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations."

Notice that it says.........."for thou shalt inherit all nations."  This is yet future because the "wicked" of the nations in the past, present, and future are NEVER His possession nor His "inheritance" at any time.  These wicked are denied entry into the kingdom and they are put to death when Christ returns to the earth ( Matt. 25:30,  46 ).   Only the "righteous" Jews and Gentiles who have survived to the end of the tribulation period will be allowed entry into the kingdom ( Matt. 25:10 saved Jews / Matt. 25:31 - 40 saved Gentiles ).  At that time Yeshua will inherit all the nations because all will be righteous who will enter kindgom, Jews and Gentiles alike.

Therefore you can see from Psalm 82:8 that the "timing" of the judgment of God upon the earth is directly associated with Christ receiving His "inheritance" at the end of that judgment period ( the tribulation period ) when He returns to set up His kingdom. God must "judge the earth" and empty Himself of His righteous indignation and pour out His "wrath " upon the earth first before His Son can inherit all the nations.   The earth has to be purged cleansed of the wicked before the kingdom can begin.

Now we need to look and compare Psalm 2:1-9 with Psalm 83.

Psalm 2:1- 9

....."Why are the nations in an uproar, and the people "devise" a vain thing? ( the plot against the Lord and His people Israel ).................The kings of the earth take their stand, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD , and against his Anointed ( Yeshua ), saying......Let us tear their fetters apart ( Israel ), and cast away "their cords ( Israel ) from us ( they don't want anything with God or His people )..........He who sits in the heavens laughs,  the LORD scoffs at them..........

..........Then He will speak to them in His anger and terrify them in His fury ( His wrath -  tribulation period inside the day of the Lord ), ........But as for Me, I have installed My King ( Yeshua ) upon Zion, my holy mountain ( happens when christ returns)......I will surely tell of the decree of the Lord..........He said to Me, Thou art my Son; today I have begotten thee............Ask of Me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for Thy possession..........Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron, thou shalt shatter them in pieces like earthenware."

Now look at the content and the language of these verses above in Ps. 2:1 - 9 and then compare them and the "theme" with Ps. 83:1 - 15.

Ps. 83:1- 15

( 1.) For,  behold,  Thine enemies make an uproar:  And those who hate Thee have exalted themselves.

( 2. ) They make shrewd plans against Thy treasured ones ( Israel ).   They have said, "Come, and let us wipe them out as a nation;  That the name of Israel be remembered no more.

( 3.) For they have "conspired together" with one mind;  Against Thee do they make a covenant."

( 13.) O my God, make them like the whirling dust, like chaff before the wind..........

( 14.)......like fire that burns a forest, and like a flame that sets the mountains on fire.........

( 15.) So pursue them with "Thy tempest", and terrify them with "Thy storm".......etc.

Here you can see that these two texts have the "same theme and content."  God is going to pursue His enemies who are devising an evil plan to destroy His people Israel and He will destroy them "inside" the tribulation period.  At the conclusion of  the tribulation period Christ will return to the earth, judge and remove the surviving wicked, and then He will "inherit" the righteous peoples of the all nations ( Jews and Gentiles ),  which will be His "inheritance."

Ps. 82:8 has a "connection" in content and timing to Ps. 2:8 which says......"Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as "Thine inheritance."

Now look at the last half of Psalm 82:8 here ....Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou "shalt inherit all nations."

Do you see the connection! Ps. 2:8 and 82:8 and their "content, theme, and timing" are all connected.  The last half of 82:8 ........."shalt inherit all nations" is connected to Ps. 2:8.   And the first half ........Arise, O God, judge the earth of 82:8 is connected to Ps. 83:1

The first half of Ps. 82:8 says....... Arise, O God, judge the earth.  This verb "Arise " shows action as the Psalmist is calling for God to "judge the earth."   Then in Ps. 83:1 we see a continuation of this theme as the Psalmist is asking God not to sit idlely by, but to take "action."   This shows that Ps. 82:8 is every bit connected to Ps. 83:1 -18.  Therefore Ps. 82:8 is the "prelude " to the opening of Psalm 83.

Now lets "combine" Ps. 82:8 and Ps. 83:1 in order to see this connection.

Notice Pslam 83:1........"O God do NOT remain quiet ( Arise , O God, judge the earth ), Do NOT be silent ( Arise , O God judge the earth ), and, O God, do NOT be still ( Arise , O God, judge the earth ).

Do you see here how Ps. 82:8 is directly connected to the opening statments in Ps. 83:1?

It is obvious that the action verb "Arise " is directly related to what the Psalmist is asking of God to do in 83:1, which is......."NOT to be quietNOT to be silent, and NOT to be still. This shows that the important statement made by the Psalmist in Ps. 82:8 ......Arise, O God, judge the earth....is the "prelude " to opening of Ps. 83:1 and its content, which goes on to describe the "same theme" which is outlined in Ps. 2:1- 9.

Therefore this "evil plot" against Israel mentioned in Psalm 83 is most definitely speaking about Israel in the "future" and it is NOT talking about some "similar events" which have already taken place in Israel's past history.   Ps. 82:8 is the "key" to understanding the "timing" of Psalm 83 because it is the "prelude " to it.  God has already judged the earth "once" during the Genesis flood, but He has NOT judged the earth a second time yet.  And since God will not and cannot "Arise and judge the earth" until AFTER He has removed His Church who will NOT be subjected to His judgments and wrath , ( Rom. 5:9;  1Thess. 1:10,  5:9;  Rev. 3:10 ), then Ps. 82:8 through Ps. 83 can have NO application to any event in Israel's "past history", since it is still "yet future." Now you can understand "why" Ps. 82:8 has to be "included" as part of Ps. 83.

God at this present time is NOT judging the earth.  At the "Cross " the Law ENDED and grace began.  We are now living in the age of what is called the "dispensation of grace."  The "Law" is past as Christ has fulfilled the requirement of the Law ( Matt. 5:17 ).  The Church had its beginning on the day of "Pentecost" and the gospel of "grace " of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is the message of the cross has been going forth ever since.  But the day is fast approaching when God will "Arise and judge the earth" a second time, which is called the "tribulation period."

Now you can see why many have missed the "timing" of Psalm 83.  It is because people have left out Psalm 82:8 which is the  "prelude " which is directly connected to Psalm 83.  The Psalmist reveals in Psalm 82:8 that God is going to "Arise and Judge the earth" so that Christ can inherit the nations.  And therefore he is also showing that God is going to "Arise and Judge the earth" at when this evil "conspiracy" against Israel is "in the process" and planning.  Those Arab nations listed in Psalm 83 have made a "covenant" with one another for the sole purpose of trying to destroy Israel and wipe her off the map.  That is exactly where we are at RIGHT NOW folks!  You have already seen the "news reports" which are coming out of Iran, Syria, middle east, Lebanon, and Gaza.....etc..etc.  They have all made a "covenant" with one another and they are "hell bent" in wanting to destroy the tiny nation of Israel.  But they will NEVER accomplish there plans because God will see to it that their conspiracy will  NEVER come to reality!

I want to close by reveiwing verses in Psalm 83: 9-12

............"Deal with them as with Midian,( Judges 7:25 - 8:3 ) As with Sisera and Jabin, at the torrent of Kishon.( Judges 4:7 - 5:21 ) .............Who were destroyed at En-dor, who became as dung for the ground..............Make their noblies like Oreb and Zeeb, ( Judges 7:25 - 8:3 ) And all their princes like Zebah and Zalummna, ( Judges chapter 8 ).............Who said, "Let us possess for us the pastures of God."

Here you can see that the Psalmist is "reviewing" Israel's past historical events which have already taken place.  He mentions these names of those enemies who played a role in Israel's past history for the very purpose of "reminding God" to do the same to those Arab nations listed who are planning to destroy the nation of Israel,  as God did to these emenies of Israel in the past.

 Therefore
Psalms 2:1-9 ,  82:8, and 83:1-18 reveals the "timing" of when these prophcies will find their fulfillment.  It happens at the time when God will "Arise and judge the earth" ( Ps. 82:8 ), which takes place in the "future" during the "Day of the Lord / Tribulation period" when God will destroy Israel's enemies.  At the conclusion of this period ( Matt. 24:29 ) Christ returns to the earth in order to judge the surviving nations in order to separate the "righteous " from the "unrighteous."  At the conclusion of this judgment Christ will "inherit the nations" ( Ps. 1:8,  82:8 ) which are made up of all righteous peoples, Jews and Gentiles alike who will be allowed entry into Christs' kindgom.
