THE WATCHES OF THE NIGHT
Mk 1335 Watch you therefore: for you know not when the master of the house
comes, at even, or at midnight, or at the cock-crowing, or early in the morning:
36 Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. 37 And what I say to you I say to
all, Watch.
Jn 119 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in
the day, he stumbles not, because he sees the light of this world. 10 But if a man
walk in the night, he stumbles, because there is no light in him.
Lk 1235 Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; 36 And you yourselves
like to men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when
he comes and knocks, they may open to him immediately. 37 Blessed are those
servants, whom the lord when he comes shall find watching: truly I say to you, that
he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and
serve them. 38 And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch,
and find them so, blessed are those servants. 39 And this know, that if the manager of
the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and
not have suffered his house to be broken through. 40 Be you therefore ready also: for
the Son of man comes at an hour when you think not.
Mt 25 1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened to ten virgins, which took their
lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. 2 And five of them were wise, and five
were foolish. 3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 While the bridegroom tarried,
they all slumbered and slept. 6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the
bridegroom comes; go you out to meet him.
Mk 646 And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.
47 And when even was come, the ship was in the middle of the sea, and he alone
on the land. 48 And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary to
them: and about the fourth watch of the night he comes to them, walking on
the sea, and would have passed by them. 49 But when they saw him walking on
the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out: 50 For they all saw him,
and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and said to them, Be
of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid. 51 And he went up to them into the ship; and
the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and
wondered.
Twelve are the hours of the day, from the first through the twelfth.
The first hour begins when a modern clock points to
six o’clock, and the day ends at eighteen sharp.
The full day starts by dusk, in the eve.
Twelve are the hours of the night, allotted in quarters:
- evening watch, complete by nine p.m.
- midnight watch, from nine to midnight
- cockcrowing watch, till three o’clock
- dawn watch, till six in the morning.
They correspond as well to the final twelve years of this doomed world.

‘For the LORD your God brings you into a Good Land’ (Dt 8:7)
Dan 12 8 And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end
of these things? 9 And he said, Go your way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and
sealed till the time of the end. 10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but
the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise
shall understand. 11 And from the time that the continuity of sacrifice shall be taken
away, and the abomination of desolation set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred
and ninety days. 12 Blessed is he that waits, and comes to the thousand three hundred
and five and thirty days. 13 But go you your way till the end be: for you shall rest, and
stand in your lot at the end of the days.
– The time of the end has just begun –
Early this morning shall we have been taken away, all people of God,
to the Good Land, involved in the dawn of the glorious Day of the Lord Jesus Christ.
