"For Ed C. on Enoch
and Elijah...."
Hi Ed C...You had a question about Enoch and
Elijah. They are mainly stated (or guessed) to be the
"two witnesses" in
Revelation chapter 11. It is true that the witnesses
are said to perform the same kinds of miracles that Elijah
and Moses did in the OT. It is also believed that
Enoch and Elijah qualify for the two witnesses because they
didn't die. The scripture that is used is "it is
appointed unto men once to die, but after this the
judgment."....Hebrews 9:27. This cannot be a basic
doctrine because others have died and been raised again many
times...both in the OT and in the NT. For one, Lazarus
lived again after being brought out of the grave. He
died again, eventually. So, we can't state
theoretically that the "two witnesses" must be Enoch or
Elijah.
Some of the mira! cles
Moses performed in the OT will be repeated in the
Tribulation. But, Moses died...see Jude 1:9.
In the truth of the matter...ALL of them died.
Hebrews Chapter 11 talks of ALL these who were faithful,
and verse 13 says, "These ALL died in faith....".
This includes both Enoch and Elijah as well. No
one has yet ascended to heaven yet but Jesus
Christ...John 3:13. And if Elijah had died when he
was taken up in the chariot of fire, then how did he
possibly write a letter spoken of in II Chronicles
21:12..."And there came a writing to him from Elijah the
prophet, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of David thy
father...." Enoch pleased God and was "taken" out
of where he was probably because there were those who
wanted to kill him. Where he was taken, nobody
knows. Genesis 5:23 says..."And ALL the days of
Enoch were three hundred and sixty and five
years:.." That is all the days he lived.
After that he died, or hi! s days wouldn't have ended at
365 years.
