I agree that Psalm 83 alone does not point
to a war. However, there are many parallel passages
to Psalm 83 that do. I have put together a study on
this war called "The Great Middle East War", where I
broke down all the passages and put the parallel passages
together. While not in Psalm 83, you will
find exact word-for-word parallels between some of
the other passages, but most are still direct parallels.
Here are a few examples in Psam 83 that
are not exact word-for-word, but still direct parallels:
Psalm 83:12-15 O my God, make them like the whirling
dust, Like the chaff
before the wind! As the fire burns the
woods, And as the flame sets the mountains on fire, So
pursue them with Your tempest, And frighten them with
Your storm.
Amos 1:14-15 Amid shouting in the day of battle, And
a tempest in the day of the whirlwind. Their king shall
go into captivity, He and his princes together," Says
the LORD.
Isaiah 17:12-13 Woe to the multitude of many people
Who make a noise like the roar of the seas, And to the
rushing of nations That make a rushing like the rushing
of mighty waters! The nations will rush like the rushing
of many waters; But God will rebuke them and they will
flee far away, And be chased like the chaff of the
mountains before the wind, Like a rolling
thing before the whirlwind.
Zephaniah 2:2-3 Before the decree is issued, Or the
day passes
like chaff, Before the LORD's fierce
anger comes upon you, Before the day of the LORD's anger
comes upon you! Seek the LORD, all you meek of the
earth, Who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness,
seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden In the
day of the LORD's anger.

Psalm 83:9-12 Deal with them as with Midian, As with
Sisera, As with Jabin at the Brook Kishon, Who perished
at En Dor, Who became as refuse on the earth. Make their
nobles like Oreb and like Zeeb,Yes, all their princes
like Zebah and Zalmunna, Who said, "Let us take
for ourselves The pastures of God for a possession."
Ezekiel 36:1-5 "And you, son of man, prophesy to the
mountains of Israel, and say, 'O mountains of Israel,
hear the word of the LORD! Thus says the Lord GOD:
"Because the enemy has said of you,
'Aha! The ancient heights have
become our possession,'"' therefore
prophesy, and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "Because
they made you desolate and swallowed you up on every
side, so that you became the possession of the rest of
the nations, and you are taken up by the lips of talkers
and slandered by the people" - therefore, O mountains of
Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD!
Thus says the Lord GOD to the mountains, the hills,
the rivers, the valleys, the desolate wastes, and the
cities that have been forsaken, which became plunder and
mockery to the rest of the nations all around -
therefore thus says the Lord GOD: "Surely I have spoken
in My burning jealousy against the rest of the nations
and against all Edom, who gave My
land to themselves as a possession, with
wholehearted joy and spiteful minds, in order to plunder
its open country."'
I also agree that the church will be gone
before Psalm 83 take place. I believe that we are
God's "hidden" ones. I cover other parallels to our
absence toward the end of the study.

"Psalm 83
commentary"
Below, a Bible
student friend has written an interesting commentary
on Psalm 83. It is timely and relevant because
of all the talk that Psalm 83 describes our current
situation. He makes some interesting and
provocative points. Prayerfully consider.

"Why there is no war
mentioned in Psalm 83"
There are many today who are speaking of a "coming
war", which they say is mentioned in Psalm 83.
Despite this "rumor" the real reality is that the
psalmist "never" mentions any war
taking place in this Psalm
83, but he only reveals the "plot"
of Israel's enemies in Psalm
83 who are planning her annihilation
as a nation.
*snip*
Question: Is there any language in
this text which suggests that there is a "war"
taking place here in Psalm
83?
Answer: NO!
*snip*
Question:.....Who is intervening here, and
who is the one pursuing Israel's enemies?
Answer: God
is "directly!" ( This happens "inside"
the "Day of the Lord ).
*snip*
Question: Can God arise and judge the earth
while the Church is still here????
Answer: Absolutely
NOT! The following verses I have listed
below shows clearly that the members of the "body of
Christ" are NOT appointed unto the wrath of God,
nor shall they ever experience God's wrath and judgments at
anytime according to the following Scriptures: (
Rom. 5:9, 8:1; 1 Thess.
1:10, 5:9; Rev. 3:10 ).
Since God cannot begin His "judgment program /
Day of the Lord " UNTIL the Church has
been removed from the earth, then it is clear that Psalm 82:8 is
revealing that the Church has had to have already been "removed
from the earth" at the time in which this "plot
and plan" of Psalm
83 is already "in the works",
and of which will be foiled, interrupted, and stopped by
the very hand of God Himself at that time
when He removes His Church. Then begins the "Day of the Lord."
You can see that the psalmist in Psalm 82:8 is asking
God Himself to arise
and judge the earth. Then
he goes right into Psalm
83 and reveals the plan of Israel's
enemies who are plotting her destruction.
