"Pentagon's Anthropic Ultimatum Deadline Part 2"

Hello John and Doves,

Check out my first letter this week on Anthropic....

President Trump stepped in an hour before the ultimatum was due and squashed it.

On February 27, 2026 it was reported that "Donald Trump has ordered all federal agencies to begin phasing out the use of Anthropic technology, following the company's unusually public dispute with the Pentagon over artificial intelligence safety."

"The directive from Trump came just over an hour before the Pentagon's deadline for Anthropic to permit unrestricted military use of its AI technology or face severe repercussions.  This followed nearly 24 hours after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei stated his company "cannot in good conscience accede" to the Defense Department's demands."

I can understand Amodei's concerns, BUT, as Hegseth said earlier - Boeing builds planes for the Pentagon but doesn't control or have a say in how the planes are used.  Why should Anthropic control how the DoD uses Claude?

The Pentagon gave Anthropic a $200 million dollar contract to develop AI for U.S. national security.  The DoD should have total control over how that technology is used.  Information on its 'limitations' should be noted by Anthropic then shared with the DoD.   But that's it.  The DoD has used other AI and is aware of 'issues'.  And the DoD has stated they have no plans to spy on Americans with Claude or allow Claude sole access to weapon systems - humans would always be involved.  (It should be noted that OpenAI/Sam Altman also is "seeking to negotiate a deal with the Pentagon to deploy its models in classified systems with exclusions preventing use for surveillance in the US or to power autonomous weapons without human approval..."  What do these AI companies know that we don't???)

President Trump has stepped in and squashed the whole thing.

"President Trump ordered the US government on Friday to stop using the artificial intelligence company Anthropic's products and the Pentagon moved to designate the company a national security risk..."

President Trump wrote that "The Leftwing nut jobs at Anthropic have made a disastrous mistake trying to strong-arm the Department of War, and force them to obey their Terms of Service instead of our Constitution.  Therefore, I am directing every Federal Agency in the United States Government to immediately cease all use of Anthropic's technology.  We don't need it, we don't want it, and will not do business with them again."  There will be a six-month phase out.

Defense Secretary Hegseth "posted on X that he was labeling Anthropic a supply chain risk to national security, blacklisting it from working with the U.S. military or contractors."  He "accused the company of trying to seize veto power over the operational decisions of the United States military."

"The government ban comes at a time when Anthropic is under heightened scrutiny, since the company, which is valued at $380 billion, is planning to go public this year."

Elon Musk's XAI also has DoD contracts and has been approved for "use in classified settings."

Anthropic is worth $380 billion - the DoD contract is piddly.  But, the DoD gave Anthropic it's start.  We'll see where it goes from here.

Probably most Americans know they are already being spied on or 'watched' - through their Smart TVs, cell phones, their vehicles, CCTV, Ring cameras, and then there are the DoD aerial craft - the balloons, the RC-135s, etc that are up over the US all the time....to name a few.  We don't want more surveillance - that's for sure, but I also don't want Claude ending up in the hands of the Chinese or ??  If you check my other letter on Anthropic today note the war games it was involved in - it was the 'winner - hands down!'.  DoD wouldn't want to go up against that.

Pentagon contractors shouldn't have a say in how the DoD uses their products and services...but AI is a whole nother technology.  Seeing it in DoD operations - even wars - knowing that ChatGPT, Claude, etc 'hallucinate', cheat, deceive, emotionally manipulate, lie and scheme - and it can be hacked!  Check out this letter from August 2025 ......very sobering information.
