There has been a tit-for-tat going on for some time across the border, with various nations trying to broker peace.The Defense Minister of Pakistan, Khawaja Asif, declared "an all-out confrontation with the Taliban government" of Afghanistan."Cross-border fighting between Pakistan and Afghanistan intensified overnight, with both sides claiming heavy loses..." Afghanistan's 'military' lacks modernization; Pakistan invests in its military nuclear program and "modernizing its navy and air force.""Pakistan is a nuclear-armed country and has 170 warheads but Afghanistan does not have a nuclear arsenal."Cross-border attacks "have increased every year since 2022, according to Armed Conflict Location and event Data, a global monitoring organisation.""Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araaghchi announced Tehran's intention to help "facilitate dialogue" between Pakistan and Afghanistan as tensions between the two countries surged overnight....Iran, a long-standing ally of Afghanistan, had also offered to mediate between the two countries when border tensions were first rising."The Pakistani PM said "its forces can crush any aggression.""Pakistan and Afghanistan are once again facing a major military confrontation...."Pakistan is a nuclear power - they have a reported 170 nuclear warheads.This could end very badly for the area.
