 I didn't really answer your question I just noted where, when and why I thought the gap was inserted....

Did God intend?

Of course God knew this would all happen...and He had a plan for it.  I don't think He intended it.  His plan/prophecy was for His people and Jerusalem...they didn't go along with it very well...so I think God works around what we humans do as we mess things up.   Like He always has a Plan B.

Just my thought for now on your question.
