Reply to Gino's "Amazing - an open letter to FiveDoves "

Hello Gino -

I share your "perplexity" as to how one body in Christ can have so many theological
differences. We could offer some suggestions, however, as to why this may be in
some cases.

The standard response is usually a lack of "rightly dividing the word of truth". It
seems overly simplified but in actuality it's true. It takes time, effort and commitment
to continue with the study of God's word and to have an open mind to receive His truths.
It also requires faith and trust - trusting Jesus to reveal His word to our hearts.
Patience in knowing that knowledge comes in stages is a key factor. Possibly some
have adopted theology truths prematurely only to find it difficult to change positions
later on.

I believe we are to continue to "contend for the faith that was once delivered to the
Saints", but it's not popular to do so. The reason? I think it makes us feel uncom-
fortable and seemingly divisive, and ultimately may create broken fellowship when
all is said and done. Some intimidation is linked to that, but it need not be so, for in
the end, when conducted in the true spirit of love and through the power of His word,
should lessen any conflict that may arise.

To continue with debates seems to intensify already sensitive emotions and that's
usually when anger or serious divisions occur. It's smart to make your presentation
of the portion of study at hand and move on when not being received. You've done
your part in planting, afterwards the watering, but it's always God who gives the increase.

For those who are on the path of learning the basics of Christianity (babes), we need
to be careful not to overwhelm and realize that God gives His revelations of truth in
accordance with His timing. Some are not ready and still in preparatory stage and it's
wise to act accordingly - not forcing doctrine when someone is simply not ready. I've
been guilty of doing this and it's something I truly regret. To be overbearing with
doctrine can cause harm and we are to be "wise as serpents and harmless as doves."

It's easy to get carried away with being over-zealous with God's wonderful truths.
The Spirit-led christian will be mindful that it is God who enlightens the heart and
makes real His truths for us to believe. I think our lack of sensitivity for the
struggling christian can create mental blocks or resistance and ultimately bring
discouragement to pursue further studies. We need to be reminded that it's often
through the struggle when we will experience victory, but still requires perseverence,
so lots of encouragement is needed.

With all this said, I think it's shameful for the way biblical doctrine is neglected in
our churches today. It appears we have developed a consciousness so severe as to
exclude any semblance of doctrine, rather we have wonderful praise services, and
good moral lessons, but the building blocks are sorely missing. It's really quite
amazing how many christians don't understand the born-again experience let alone
the teachings on grace; sanctification; justification; and numerous other biblical truths.
The most shocking is the lack of teaching on the salvation message. Many don't come
close to understanding the gospel message.

In the matter of end times theology, we have opportunity to present our theories
and still maintain fellowship. I haven't seen any contempt towards anyone for their
differences and that is such a testimony for our Lord and His love and His work .
I think that's great and such a blessing.

Thank you Doves for your spirit of love towards one another.

Blessings,
Judith
