We have been warned by Christ the Lord in Luke 21:34-36 of how not to prepare to be ready for participation in The Blessed Hope. "And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting (partying), and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day comes on you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them who dwell on the face of the earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the son of man."
Who comprised the original audience of Christ to hear those words? It was, by a large majority, the people of the 12 tribes of Israel, the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Is there a current annual period in Israel when drunkenness if prominent? Yes. It is during certain days of the month called Adar, usually the last month, number 12, of the Spiritual Year for Israel. These are the days of Purim, a minor feast, not included as a Feast of the Lord listed in the book of Leviticus. Adar 13 is the Fast of Esther, but the danger days of drunkenness are on Purim on Adar 14 and Sushan Purim ( Little Purim) on Adar 15. On those 2 days, a number of Jewish men in Israel drink alcoholic beverages to excess, and become very drunk. Some become falling down drunk .Do these excesses occur in other nations? Yes. Do the warnings by the Messiah about excessive partying into drunkenness apply to Days of Purim? Yes. Surfeiting can also be called carousing, which implies additional spiritual dangers of engaging in acts of alcohol fueled sexual immorality.
In 2015, the Fast of Esther will be on March 4, Purim will be on March 5, and Little Purim on March 6. The AIPAC Conference will be from March 1 to 3 and Prime Minister Netanyahu will address AIPAC and Congress during this period while on his visit to the United States. So March 1 to 6 will be significant days, highlighting modern and ancient House of Israel issues.
Might the warnings of Christ be linked to the 3 days of Purim in 2015? Wisdom for the bride of Christ: be sober, be praying, be repenting, and be WATCHING for the Bridegroom of the Ages to appear for His own. Soon!
With Love and Shalom,
Jean
