Instead of forcing out that Canaanites, some tribes of Israel settled on eventually having them as tributaries:

Judges 1:30 Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.


Later, for a period of about 1400 years, Sephardic Jews had to pay jizya to muslims, until they migrated to the re-established Israel.
