Let this sink in:
In the Bible, "Mercury" refers strictly to the Roman god of commerce and communication (the Greek equivalent is Hermes). The physical liquid metal element is never mentioned in scripture.
The Biblical Reference
The only place this figure appears is in the New Testament book of Acts.
The Context: After the apostles Paul and Barnabas miraculously healed a crippled man in the city of Lystra, the local crowds believed the gods had come down to earth in human form.
The Identification: The people called Barnabas Jupiter (the king of gods) because of his commanding presence, and they called Paul Mercury because Paul was the "chief speaker" or main messenger.
"Commerce and communication"??
Isn't THAT "EXACTLY", what they are about to "cripple"?
