"escape"

Someone was recently mentioning this scripture:

I Thessalonians 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

And was wondering whether they will be trying to escape?
Were there any who attempted to run out of the gate of Sodom, after Lot left, when the fire began to fall?
Were there any who attempted to get onto, or into, the ark, when the rain began to fall?
Will there be any who may attempt to escape the sudden destruction, by spaceship to Mars, or to hide in bunkers deep in the earth?
Or will some who had previously dismissed the gospel, when the realize what is happening, begin to cry out, not unlike those Israelites at Kadesh Barnea?

Numbers 14:40 And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the LORD hath promised: for we have sinned.

41 And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the LORD? but it shall not prosper.

42 Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies.

(What will the escape be?)

Psalms 71:2 Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape: incline thine ear unto me, and save me.

Psalms 141:10 Let the wicked fall into their own nets, whilst that I withal escape.

Luke 21:36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

(Will it be like this?)

Revelation 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

(Will the escape be the blessed hope?
If so, will reality, and terror, suddenly be clear to those who did not escape? Will they realize that have not escaped?)

Hebrews 2:3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

Hebrews 12:25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:

Psalms 56:7 Shall they escape by iniquity? in thine anger cast down the people, O God.

Jeremiah 11:11 Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.

Romans 2:3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

Matthew 23:33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

(And what about, if possible, that America could be Babylon of Revelation 18?
Then would the prophecy in Jeremiah possibly those who first escape, and then those who don't escape?)

Jeremiah 50:28 The voice of them that flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance of his temple.

29 Call together the archers against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none thereof escape: recompense her according to her work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.
