We are not saved by works:
Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
But works are to be there, in the Christian's life:
Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Those works don't get someone into heaven, but for the saved, at the judgment seat of Christ, their works are rewarded, or not:
Romans 14:10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
II Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
I Corinthians 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
14 If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
15 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
That's for the saved, but what about for the lost?
Revelation 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
For the lost, there will be a judgment throne, a thousand years afterwards, and not the same as, the judgment seat of Christ for believers. At the white throne judgment, the lost will first be judged for their works: "they were judged every man according to their works".But that is NOT to see where they end up.No, that is determined, solely on whether their names are written in the book of life or not.
So, for both the judgment seat of Christ for the saved, and the white throne judgment of the lost, there is a judging of the works. But in neither case is that to determine where they will spend eternity. For the saved, they spend eternity with Jesus, only because they have believed on him.For the lost, their eternity is determined by their names not being written in the book of life.
For the saved, the works are judged to determine rewards, or the lack thereof. So, what about for the lost, will it be for anti-rewards, or something similar?
