""It can't happen here"?"

Ukraine had for some time, strategically placed their drone launchers in various spots Russia, not far from their targets  -  and it worked, masterfully.

Mossad had for some time, strategically placed their drone launchers in various spots in Iran, not far from their targets  -  and it worked, masterfully.

China has for some time, been purchasing farm land near US bases.

The US attitude regarding any threat from China, is best reflected by what Joe Biden said at a campaign rally in Iowa in 2020:

"China is going to eat our lunch? Come on, man."

Then, in the same speech, he also said:

"I hear these stories about how China is going to eat our lunch. Give me a break!"

Those kinds of snippets are designed to suppress the concerns, sort of a modern version of the 30's & 60's phrase, "It can't happen here".
In the 30's, the phrase, "It can't happen here", reflected American confidence that there couldn't be a rise of a fascist dictator in the US.
Sinclair Lewis wrote a book with that title, "It Can't Happen Here", where a populist wins the presidential election, and turns the US into a fascist dictatorship.

30 years later,  Frank Zappa released his song, "It Can't Happen Here", and according to songtell.com:
"By repeating the sentence in a mockingly reassuring tone, Zappa ridicules the naivety of those who think their own country is immune to social or political turmoil.
He challenges his listeners to question their complacent attitudes and consider the possibility that the same horrors they condemn elsewhere could occur in their own backyard."
Where, in the song, he said:
"Who could imagine that they would freak out in Minnesota...
Who could imagine that they would freak out in Washington D.C.
It can't happen here
Everybody's safe and it can't happen here"

Now, 60 years after that, are we still thinking, "It can't happen here"?
