"Confirming the Covenant - Steve Coerper - June 8"

Hi John, and Doves,

Steve Coerper (8 June 2025)
The confirmation of the covenant (fivedoves.com)

Hi Steve,

I’m afraid you’ve missed it too!

The Covenant was confirmed by our Lord Jesus Christ in AD 30!  It was the “New Covenant” that Jeremiah had promised ‘God would make’ with the house of Israel and the house of Judah  after those days of their (Babylonian) exile:

“Behold, the days are coming says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the  house of Israel and with the house of Judah…

But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD. I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people…

For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”   Jeremiah 31:31–34.

Jesus confirmed the Covenant ― by His death, and through His blood that was shed for Israel’s sin ― and by the coming of the Holy Spirit’s (indwelling Law in their hearts and minds) on the Day of Pentecost in AD 30.

Shortly after their exile ended in 539  BC; Gabriel via Daniel 9:24–27 promised a 490 year timetable (called the Prophecy of 70 weeks) during which this astonishing two-part, ‘Covenant event’ would be confirmed and concluded!  It would not begin until a command was made to restore and build Jerusalem.  This command was made by the Persian King Artaxerxes I in 458/7 BC (for Ezra) to re-establish the Law of God in Jerusalem, and make it the judicial capital of Judaea again (Ezra 7:12–26). The 490 year prophecy would proceed from that command for 483 years, which brings us to approx. AD 26.  Then Daniel 9:27 says He (Messiah the Prince, cf. v.25) shall confirm a covenant with many for one week.”  Therefore, the final 70th week (7 years) of the prophecy would occur from AD 27–34. During the first half of this period Messiah the Prince would ‘visit the Jews’ in ‘Jerusalem’ where his death would atone for the sins of many Jews, then the Holy Spirit at Pentecost would put the law of God in their hearts.  During this period, Jesus had told his disciples to only go and preach about His coming kingdom to the ‘lost sheep’ (Jews) in the house of Israel in the holy city (Jerusalem). (Matt. 10:6–23; 15:24; fulfilling Dan. 9:24a)

Thus, the ‘New Covenant’ was confirmed in the middle of the week in AD 30 (to cancel out the Temple sacrificial system) which had been superseded by the ‘blood of Jesus’ for the forgiveness of sin for the whole house of Israel. (Hebrews 8–10) Then, the Apostles and Disciples preached the Gospel to the ‘lost sheep of the house of Israel in Jerusalem from AD 30 until the martyrdom of Stephen in 34 AD; the Jewish converts were scattered from Jerusalem, to preach the Gospel in Judaea, Samaria and to the uttermost parts of the world.   (Acts 1:4–8; Matt. 24:14)  Praise God that the Gentile nations were included in the New Covenant after Peter’s vision in Acts 10. So, on the night before He died for our sins, Jesus confirmed the New Covenant…

Then he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to the, saying, ‘Drink from it all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.’

(Matt. 26:27–28)
