It seems that AI has moved on and left the average Joe as 'a cavemen in the Stone Age'. AI for us is writing a term paper or resume' or giving us info via a Chatbot or Google search or turning on the lights or alarm system to our house or generating images, video clips, and driving our Teslas for us. And if we watch movies, it's used to make special effects. Wow. And we're so impressed by all of this. That's our AI.
But there is a whole world out there beyond what we see or can even comprehend. Some for good, some not for good. And military-grade AI is not decades, but eons, ahead of consumer-grade AI.Consumer-Grade AI:Yet it's the consumer--grade AI we are told to be worried about. That it will soon be smarter than us. That's what we should be concerned with and focused on... That AI needs to slow down - so we can catch up. That it shouldn't be allowed to advance too quickly....All the while, the military-grade AI is flying pilotless fighter jets at 9 Gs, and military-grade AI is directing battlefield maneuvers, and directing drones far faster than a human can even think. We are certainly in an AI arms race - and it's not a nuclear one.Consumer AI is not advancing nearly as fast as military-grade AI - in fact, our AI is a pathetic joke by comparison - and they are making sure we don't see what's going on.AI isn't all good or all bad: AI is being used to make 'deep fakes' and false information about people and issues as in politics. AI is tracking people via body attributes and facial recognition. It is being used by our military to spy on our enemies. AI is being used to make it easier for criminals to hack into systems. And there is an unmanned fighter jet that can fly at 9 plus Gs and carry out dog fights. AI can discover drugs for Big Pharma. AI can arm our military and defend our country. AI can design faster and better - most everything.AI Energy Consumption:BUT the amount of energy AI uses is staggering. If these climate change people want AI, they'll need to drop their anti-fossil fuel activism and get behind fossil fuel electrical plants. AI’s energy appetite is real — but so is its climate potential

MIT Technology Review contained an article about "the massive and growing electricity demands of AI, exposing how each prompt, image or video generation chips away at finite energy resources." AI "could consume more electricity than entire nations." Meta, OpenAI, Microsoft etc are "pouring billions into data center expansion, often powered by fossil fuels..."Most AI use is for "users prompting AI for responses, is ongoing and accounts for 80 - 90% of current AI computing power." Every query and prompt takes energy. "With over a billion AI queries daily, the cumulative toll is enormous."In the U.S., these data centers are "drawing 4.4% of the national power supply. By 2028, data centers could demand up to 12% of U.S. electricity. AI could use 165 - 326 terawatt-hours annually - more than some countries use in a year! These costs are passed on to the consumer, of course, with increased residential electricity bills.Military-Grade AI:There is a new unmanned fighter jet - run by AI. The U.S. Air Force could select this aircraft for their inventory. It's made by Anduril Technologies. This is the company that created Lattice OS - "an AI-powered operating system designed to orchestrate autonomous defense systems across land, sea, air and even cyberspace." It's a "battlefield operating system for managing fully autonomous weapons across land, sea, air and space....it's an AI-based weapons system." This system issues "goal-oriented commands like orders issues to soldiers. This is military-grade AI.The "Fury" is a pilotless fighter jet - it's about half the size and dimensions of an F-16. It can fly up to 50,000 feet and hit speeds around Mach 0.95 (729 mph). It can perform up to +9 Gs. It's 20 feet long with a 17 foot wingspan. It can carry weapons for air-to-air combat. It is capable of making "adjustments for identifying, selecting and engaging targets." It is designed to fly and fight on it's own. Fury is cheaper that a piloted fighter jet. The cost is somewhere between $25 and $30 million. It can fly alongside of an F-35 and act as a "robotic wingman" - to "increase a manned fighter's survivability and lethality."
