(Caspar,That pdf about Jerusalem, that you linked to, mentioned the following:)
He had to show by a symbolic act the downfall of Judah and the city of Jerusalem, so that it could no longer be restored. The old city of Jerusalem will never be restored and destroyed, the old earthen pot was smashed.
(Yet, after the 70 years of captivity in Babylon, the LORD said:)
Zechariah 1:12 Then the angel of the LORD answered and said, O LORD of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years?14 So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.16 Therefore thus saith the LORD; I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, saith the LORD of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.
Zechariah 2:12 And the LORD shall inherit Judah his portion in the holy land, and shall choose Jerusalem again.
(Then the LORD said that he would "return" to Jerusalem:)
Zechariah 8:3 Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain.
(And he was to return to Jerusalem in person:)
Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
(Which he fulfilled:)
John 12:12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.14 And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.
(But the pdf had said:)
The old city is under a curse of the LORD and will never become the seat of Jeshua's government.
(However, when Jesus entered the old Jerusalem, riding upon an ass, fulfilling what the old Jerusalem had been promised, "thy King cometh" - the King is the government.)
(Yet, they rejected him, turned him over to the Gentiles, who crucified him, and within a generation the city and temple were again destroyed, that time by the Romans.
But, Jesus will still yet return to Jerusalem to rescue them from "all the nations", of "all the people of the earth", that will come against them:)
Zechariah 12:2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.8 In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them.9 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.
(However, he will pour the spirit of grace upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, not totally destroy it, and they will recognize Jesus for who he really is:)
10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.
(The pdf also mentioned when the glory of the LORD left Jerusalem, as prophesied by Ezekiel:)
And so we see that God's glory has left Jerusalem
Ezekiel 11:22 Then did the cherubims lift up their wings, and the wheels beside them; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above.23 And the glory of the LORD went up from the midst of the city, and stood upon the mountain which is on the east side of the city.
God has left the Old Jerusalem
(After the 70 year Babylonian captivity, they returned to Jerusalem and rebuilt the temple, but the glory of the LORD didn't fill the temple then, like with the first temple.Yet, at that time, Haggai prophesied:)
Haggai 2:9a The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts:
(Because the LORD God of Israel, manifest in the flesh, came into that temple, and taught the people:)
John 8:2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
(Not something he would have done if the old city was under a curse, as what he did with the people in the temple, was far more of a blessing, rather than a curse.)
