Why was his first temptation to do something as
the Son of God, rather than as the Son of Man led by the
Holy Ghost?
Matthew 4:3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of
God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is
written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every
word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Didn't Jesus do everything as a man, by the
Holy Ghost, rather than by his divinity?
Luke 4:1 And Jesus being full of the
Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the
wilderness,
14a And Jesus returned in the power of
the Spirit into Galilee:
18a The Spirit of the Lord is upon
me,
John 3:34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh
the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure
unto him.
Matthew 12:28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom
of God is come unto you.
Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of
Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God,
purge your conscience from dead works to serve the
living God?
That way, Jesus was not only the LORD God
manifest in the flesh,
but
he was also the perfect man, the only one who perfectly
kept the law, and never sinned,
that
way he was the perfect kinsman redeemer Lamb of God,
sacrificed for us wicked sinners.
It would be to easy for us to try and not live
to please God,
as
we could tell ourselves that we can't, because we're not
God,
and
we cannot be like Jesus since he is God, and we're only
men.
However, Jesus actually did it all as a man led
by the Spirit, not by exercising his divinity.
That way he is not only perfectly God, but he
is also the perfect man.
Now, that he died for us, he expects us to live
for him.
But he does so by giving us his Spirit.
So, now that we are saved, and have the Holy
Ghost, we could walk in the Spirit, if we submit.
If we do, only then can we live right, to
please Jesus, and to keep his commandments, and do what
he says.
Otherwise, if we strive to do all of that by
ourselves, the best we can ever be is a Pharisee.
