Were there not some things that the LORD said were going to happen? But then didn't something better happen and changed all that?
Jonah 3:4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
Wasn't that supposed to have happened? But then, didn't the people repent, and were spared? Also, wasn't Hezekiah told that he was going to die?
Isaiah 38:1 In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.5 Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.
But didn't the LORD change it when Hezekiah prayed?Could it also be that the temple that Ezekiel wrote of in chapters 40-47, is what it was going to be,but something better changes all that, the crucifixion of Jesus and the new covenant?
Hebrews 7:19 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.
Hebrews 8:6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
Hebrews 12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
The LORD took away the first covenant:
Hebrews 10:8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
There are now no more sacrifices for sin:
Hebrews 10:18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
Ezekiel's temple (40-47), and the division of the land (48), was not done that way, by those that returned from Babylon. That is why many have said that this must be for the millennial kingdom, and that is merely a memorial, not sacrifices for sin.Yet, Ezekiel mentions sin and trespass offerings:
Ezekiel 42:13 Then said he unto me, The north chambers and the south chambers, which are before the separate place, they be holy chambers, where the priests that approach unto the LORD shall eat the most holy things: there shall they lay the most holy things, and the meat offering, and the sin offering, and the trespass offering; for the place is holy.
But Hebrews 10:18b says, "there is no more offering for sin".Jesus sacrificed himself and offered his own blood:
Hebrews 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Why go back to purging with the blood of bulls and goats, when the following is now true?
Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Yet Ezekiel mentioned the following:
Ezekiel 43:18 And he said unto me, Son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; These are the ordinances of the altar in the day when they shall make it, to offer burnt offerings thereon, and to sprinkle blood thereon.19 And thou shalt give to the priests the Levites that be of the seed of Zadok, which approach unto me, to minister unto me, saith the Lord GOD, a young bullock for a sin offering.20 And thou shalt take of the blood thereof, and put it on the four horns of it, and on the four corners of the settle, and upon the border round about: thus shalt thou cleanse and purge it.21 Thou shalt take the bullock also of the sin offering, and he shall burn it in the appointed place of the house, without the sanctuary.25 Seven days shalt thou prepare every day a goat for a sin offering: they shall also prepare a young bullock, and a ram out of the flock, without blemish.
Jesus is the sacrifice for the people:
Hebrews 9:26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
Yet Ezekiel mentioned that they would still be slaying the sacrifice for the people:
Ezekiel 44:11 Yet they shall be ministers in my sanctuary, having charge at the gates of the house, and ministering to the house: they shall slay the burnt offering and the sacrifice for the people, and they shall stand before them to minister unto them.15 But the priests the Levites, the sons of Zadok, that kept the charge of my sanctuary when the children of Israel went astray from me, they shall come near to me to minister unto me, and they shall stand before me to offer unto me the fat and the blood, saith the Lord GOD:27 And in the day that he goeth into the sanctuary, unto the inner court, to minister in the sanctuary, he shall offer his sin offering, saith the Lord GOD.29 They shall eat the meat offering, and the sin offering, and the trespass offering; and every dedicated thing in Israel shall be theirs.
Ezekiel 45:15 And one lamb out of the flock, out of two hundred, out of the fat pastures of Israel; for a meat offering, and for a burnt offering, and for peace offerings, to make reconciliation for them, saith the Lord GOD.17 And it shall be the prince’s part to give burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and drink offerings, in the feasts, and in the new moons, and in the sabbaths, in all solemnities of the house of Israel: he shall prepare the sin offering, and the meat offering, and the burnt offering, and the peace offerings, to make reconciliation for the house of Israel.19 And the priest shall take of the blood of the sin offering, and put it upon the posts of the house, and upon the four corners of the settle of the altar, and upon the posts of the gate of the inner court.22 And upon that day shall the prince prepare for himself and for all the people of the land a bullock for a sin offering.23 And seven days of the feast he shall prepare a burnt offering to the LORD, seven bullocks and seven rams without blemish daily the seven days; and a kid of the goats daily for a sin offering.25 In the seventh month, in the fifteenth day of the month, shall he do the like in the feast of the seven days, according to the sin offering, according to the burnt offering, and according to the meat offering, and according to the oil.
The blood of bulls and goats is no longer the desired sacrifice, the bloody sacrifice of Jesus is:
Hebrews 10:4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
Yet Ezekiel mentioned that it would still be done:
Ezekiel 46:20 Then said he unto me, This is the place where the priests shall boil the trespass offering and the sin offering, where they shall bake the meat offering; that they bear them not out into the utter court, to sanctify the people.
Many say that these sacrifices would be merely a memorial. However, the words, "memorial", or, "do this in remembrance of me", are not mentioned in Ezekiel 40-47.Those words are for the passover and the Lord's supper, not for sacrifices for sins.Sin offering and trespass offering sacrifices do have remembrance associated with them:
Hebrews 10:3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
Yet, because of Jesus's sacrifice:
Hebrews 10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
So is it possible, that the sin offerings and trespass offerings, mentioned in Ezekiel 40-47,are what would have been the future, but now there is going to be a much better future than those, because of the sacrifice of Jesus and the new covenant?Could those sacrifices, possibly no longer even be thought of, because of the infinitely better sacrifice of Jesus? If so, would it be similar to the following?
Jeremiah 3:16 And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.
