"the blood on the
mercy seat"
My brother had written to me regarding the blood of Jesus, and
asked for my thoughts.
First, below, is what he wrote, followed, by my response.
Please let me know what you all think, as well.
Thank you
from my brother:
“Hebrews 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by
his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having
obtained eternal redemption for us.”
At first reading the other day I thought, it’s true! He did
bring the blood into the heavenly temple.
Then I started to re-read and began to wonder. It
says “by” his own blood, not “with”.
Then I said maybe it means because of his blood he
entered. That didn’t make any sense.
Earthly priest would not have done that. Secondly Jesus
didn’t need anything to enter into His holy of holy in heaven.
As for performing the role of a high priest, He May needed to
have blood- as the Scripture says, “not without blood.”
Then I noticed it said “having obtained eternal redemption for
us. “having”. Past tense.
I believe the cross was the altar and the phrase “It is
finished” means just that - ‘It has been
accomplished ‘
So, now full circle I ask: Did He need to bring the blood
to heaven? Or did He do it to fulfill a type?
I do get irked with preachers who say, “When Jesus said ‘Touch
me not’
He was trying to say that He still needed to bring that blood to
the heavenly mercy seat and she couldn’t touch the High Priest!”
That seems lame and bogus to me. The phrase means ‘Stop
clinging to me!’ ie there is so much to now be accomplished.
You can’t stay here worshipping and keeping me here. I
must be busy and you will have much to do.
Any thought bro?
my response:
I also believe Jesus' blood is somehow there.
When he he brought it there, I'm not sure, but the blood was
shed in time, but now it is in eternity. Jesus, himself is
eternal:
John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you,
Before Abraham was, I am.
It was like Jesus was saying, "I
am right now, also present in the past, even before Abraham was,
but currently I'm there in the present tense, while
simultaneously here in the present tense with you, now"
- in a sense, omnipresent in time (when).
Also, he is omnipresent in space
(where):
John 3:13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that
came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
It was like Jesus was saying, "I
am right now, also present in heaven, while simultaneously here
with you, now".
So is it too hard to imagine that he could get that precious
blood to that heavenly mercy seat?
Didn't one preacher try to
convince that Jesus' blood coagulated and dried up on calvary. I
find that hard to accept.
First, it was like no other blood, ever:
Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the
flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to
feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own
blood.
That shows that it was not
regular blood, or simply man's blood tainted by Adam's sin,
but was, as it says, God's own blood.
Second, it had different life in it:
Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I
have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for
your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the
soul.
That is eternal life in that
blood.
Eternal life doesn't dry up in the ground, like the word of God
didn't dry up in a Qumran cave,
it is as fresh today as when it was first written.
Also, the new testament speaks of the blood in the present
tense, and still active:
I John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light,
we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus
Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
So, exactly how and when he got it there, I'm
not sure, but I am sure that it is there on that heavenly mercy
seat.
