The early Church was persecuted by unbelievers from the outside. Today in America - much persecution comes from the unbelievers who are inside the churches. Those who joined with the early believers knew there was a price to pay for becoming a Christian. Today a disciple is one who has counted the cost - and is willing to forsake all to follower Jesus. Picking up your cross separates you from those who are trying to save their lives. Count the cost.
