"When do they say the Book of Daniel was unsealed?"


 

If you search around the internet, you will find any number of fine-sounding expositions and sermons on the prophecies in the Book of Daniel. Most give detailed interpretations of the various chrono-specific prophecies in chapters 7-12, such as this exposition on YouTube of Daniel 9 by Dr. John MacArthur (a man of God who I feel is one of the finest New Testament expositors actively preaching today) that follows the standard approach to interpreting the prophecies in Daniel that has been bouncing around in conservative Bible-believing circles for more than a century.

The standard interpretations of the Danielic prophecies have been developed over the years by such luminaries as John Nelson Darby (c. 1890), Sir. Arthur Anderson (c. 1894), C. I. Scofield (c. 1909), Arno C. Gabalein (c. 1911), Dr. John Walvoord of Dallas Theological Seminary (c. 1971), Dr. Leon Wood of Grand Rapids Bible Seminary (c. 1973), and many other giants of the faith, and they have been a blessing to generations of the faithful. But, ALL fail to address one important question: When was the Book of Daniel unsealed so that they could explain the prophecies to us.

That is a critically important question to leave unanswered. Why so? Because showing that the prophecies in Daniel had been unsealed by God prior to attempting to interpret them is the most basic requirement for offering valid interpretations of the Danielic prophecies. It speaks to the very accuracy of the interpretations of the Danielic prophecies being made by those who have written commentaries and preached sermons about the prophecies in Daniel in recent years, and failing to show when and how the prophecies have been unsealed is a major interpretive flaw.
