I praise The Lord for your testimony my brother. I have a similar background from Cuba. I was brought to the USA at age ten. Educated in the Roman Catholic Church I too struggled with its superstitions and hypocrisies. As a teenager I was bitterly anti communist because of what I saw that system do to my family. However, I did get into the occult and had some chilling experiences. I then started to visit many denominations looking for the "truth".  I was a good debater so I would challenge and question every belief and practice of any denomination I was researching.
One day I met an evangelical kid in the bus I would take every morning to go to work. He tried to evangelize me but I, as usual, shredded his beliefs until one day. I had a painful tonsillectomy and couldn't talk because of the pain. That kid came to visit me and gave me the gospel without me being able to talk back, God had to shut me up, I was a sitting duck.
I repented, wept and accepted my Lord as savior. I have been involved in promoting Christ to family and friends with all hearing the gospel and many accepting Christ.
So, my brother Luis, similar backgrounds, travels over the rocky roads of life, but same outcome as far as meeting, accepting, and serving a risen Lord that is unequal in excellence and grace.
