Rowina (15 June 2013)
"Robin, concerning
fires; they are here in New Mexico as well"
We have been having much bigger fires than in Colorado, here in
NM for weeks now. The difference between here and there
(other than our much larger acreage
burned as of today 6/l3/2013) is that not many structures have
burned. Our fires are mostly in forest, with only a few
homes, and not as expensive ones, in the line of the fire.
The Thompson Ridge fire in the Jemez mountains has burned over
21,000 acres, and three little towns are evacuated, but the big
problem is SMOKE. Same with the fires in the Pecos,
widespread toxic smoke. And the southern NM fires
are very bad and will bring unhealthy air to Albuquerque today,
if the Silver fire blows smoke north. If the wind blows
other than north, the fire will wipe out the village of
Kingston, according to what little we hear on TV news. A
new fire in Jaroso went from 600 acres burned two nights ago to
8000 acres yesterday--I have not checked that fire's progress
this morning. The Jaroso fire is bringing smoke to many
communities north of Santa Fe.
I am smoke sensitive. I have not brought myself up for
prayer here. But I too have been told to evacuate by my
doctor. But I can't. It's too expensive and I would
have to go alone. Every day the wind changes.
Sometimes it is very bad here, other times nearly clear. I
am having vertigo. But insurance won't cover evacuation
unless there is a mandatory evac order such as we had in 2000,
when I lost my home, and in 2011, which brought the largest
wildfire in NM history to the edge of town.
There are several thousand firefighters now active in New
Mexico, and eventually there will not be enough to cover the
whole area.
The whole SW is in danger of yearly prolonged fires like this
due to our pervasive drought. I can't ask for prayer for
us because it may indeed be God's judgement which is at at
hand. How can we keep praying for mercy when we know the
tribulation is at hand, with these weather calamities being not
the only trouble?
When praying for Colorado, add New Mexico, which is rarely
covered on national news.
