Mr. Almond, very fascinating post on The Titanic and the parallels to America. I visited that exhibit several times back in 1999. Upon entry, you could touch a wall of ice that gave you a sense of how cold the water was that night. Very sobering! Some of the things that immediately drew my interest were pieces of the ship -- specifically the advertised outside hull which turned out to be much smaller than anticipated -- plus a lifeboat was on display. The difficult part was seeing the pictures and bio's and personal items like shoes and clothing (wedding dress), musical instruments, decorations, stateroom items and the unopened jar of olives. A tragedy that so many people needlessly died who could have been saved! But here's something I find interesting and you may too...the current/ongoing full-scale recreation by several Christians of Noah's Ark:
- Summer 2012. John Huibers, a Dutch creationist, spent 3 years and $1.6 million of his own money building a full-scale replica of the Ark in time for the Summer 2012 Olympics in London. I believe the plan is to sail it up the Thames.
- Spring of 2014?. Ken Ham of Answers in Genesis, is also recreating a full-scale replica (50 ft long x 80 ft high) with an anticipated opening date of early 2014. They've recently purchased 800 acres of land in northern Kentucky. Mr. Ham, by the way, moved here from Australia in 1987.
