"To Patricia S - Explanation about Pentecost being on the 28th of the 4th Hebrew month"

Dear Patricia and other doves who might be interested,

In response to your post asking for more explanation about why I said that Pentecost happens in July, below are the references about why scriptural Pentecost falls on the 28th day of the 4th Hebrew month (July 18th in the case of 2012):

To understand the true counting of Pentecost, first the luni-solar Hebrew calendar must be understood. The present Gregorian calendar was not in use in Israel at the time the New Testament was written, and when the Bible says for example the 6th day, it’s not referring to “Friday”, it’s referring to the 6th day of the ancient Hebrew calendar. Likewise, the 7th day Sabbath was not “Saturday” and the 1st day of the week was not “Sunday”. We must forget the Gregorian Calendar for a minute if we want to understand the original Hebrew calendar.

The lunar-solar calendar begins each month with the New Moon.  (For use of the term "New Moon" in Scripture, see: I Samuel 20:5, 18 & 24; 2 Kings 4:23; Psalm 81:3; Isaiah 66:23; Ezekiel 46:1; and Amos 8:5.)

On the Biblical lunar-solar calendar, each lunation (or lunar month) always begins with a New Moon day, which is in a class of worship day all by itself.  Six work days follow on the 2nd through 7th of the month.  The seventh-day Sabbath always falls on the 8th, the 15th, the 22nd and the 29th of every lunar month.

(You might want to check this excellent article: The Battle of Jericho was a 7-day battle. On which day was the Sabbath?): http://www.creationcalendar.com/CalendarIssue/63-JoshuasJericho.pdf

Scripture itself supports this calendar configuration.  Every time the seventh-day Sabbath is given a numbered date in the Bible, it always falls on the 8th, the 15th, the 22nd or the 29th of the month.  Either the actual date itself is assigned or contextual dates and other details consistently allow for that extrapolation.  For example, the story of the Exodus from Egypt contains specific dates and details for 3 months in a row, all of which have the seventh-day Sabbath falling on the 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th for each month.  These calendar details were confirmed 40 years later at the time of Joshua and again at the crucifixion of Christ on the 14th day of the 1st month (which was the 6th day of the ancient Hebrew week – Passover according to Leviticus), His dead body resting in the tumb on the Sabbath day (15th day of the 1st month - 1st day of Unleavened Bread) and his resurrection on the 1st day of the week (16th day of the 1st month, Firstfruits).

In regard to the calculation of Pentecost, here is the counting:

First, 7 (lunar) Sabbaths have to be counted after wavesheaf (Nisan 16th , Firstfruits):

These seven Sabbaths are:

1.   22nd of the 1st month (month of Abib or “Nisan”)

2.   29th of the 1st month

3.   8th  of the 2st month (month of “Iyyar”)

4.   15th of the 2st month

5.   22nd of the 2st month

6.   29th of the 2st month

7.   8th  of the 3rd month (month of “Sivan”) à the morrow after the 7th Sabbath is the 9th of Sivan

Then from the 9th of Sivan (morrow after the 7th Sabbath above), we must count 50 days. But the first day in the counting is already the 9th of Sivan, because blocks of time in the Bible are counted using “inclusive reckoning” method (there are several evidences for that). So the 1st day of the 50 days is Sivan 9th, and the 50th day of that counting is the 28th day of the 4th Hebrew month (“Tammuz”).

This counting takes into consideration that the 3rd month has 30 days. If the 3rd month only has 29 days, then the counting ends on the 29th day of the 4th Hebrew month.

Author Troy Miller (www.creationcalendar.com) calculates Pentecost as the 29th day of the 4th month (even considering Sivan with 30 days) because he doesn’t use “inclusive reckoning” in his counting. He considers that day # 1 in the counting is Sivan 10th, not Sivan 9th. Reference here: http://creationcalendar.com/CalendarIssue/17-3WitnessCalendarCount.pdf

Author Arnold Bowen (www.lunarsabbath.info) calculates Pentecost as the 28th day of the 4th month. Reference here: http://www.lunarsabbath.us/id6.html

Both of them have excellent articles about calendar issues.

In 2012, the 28th of the 4th month falls on July 18th. The 29th falls on July 19th.

Again, I’m not setting dates here for anything. I’m just explaining why Pentecost in 2012 hasn’t happened yet.

Blessings,
