30 to 35 years ago, in the Chicago area, there were a number of people who were saying that Jesus was their Saviour, but not yet their Lord.I remember being dumbfounded whenever I heard that.A lot of that came from the "seeker sensitive" churches.In order to be "sensitive" to the "seekers", certain topics were carefully avoided: hell, damnation, fire & brimstone, eternal judgment, etc.Also, apparently so was repentance (I was guilty of holding back on mentioning repentance, back then, as well).The results took a while to be seen, but the, "Jesus as Saviour, but not as Lord", appeared to be one of those results.The Hatfield-McCoy camps formed, and the accusation of, "Lordship salvation", was bantered about, then, like the term, "racist", is today.I don't know if things like that happened where you live, or not, but it may have been similar, by the way you write about this.
