We have learned, from Revelation 6: 9-11, that the souls of the martyrs for Jesus cry out for Almighty God's vengeance.  See link below.

These souls have not had their bodily redemption yet - that only happens at the prophesied resurrection of the dead - which takes place just prior to the rapture.  This explains to me why the two witnesses (Moses and Elijah) are so important to the entire concept.  Moses experienced physical death - representing the resurrection of the dead.  Elijah did not experience physical death but was 'taken and swept up to the LORD.  Elijah represents those who are alive but are changed (immortalised) and swept up to the LORD.  Their very presence bears witness to the resurrection of the dead and the rapture of believers.  WOWZA - Moses and Elijah are POWERFUL witnesses in the tribulation period.
