This is in reply to your 7/10 post New thoughts on - The Mark of the Beast  Worship of the Beast and of his image doesn't necessarily mean bowing down to the Beast and his image although it might be a required part of the worship of the Beast and his image.  Worship can also include prayer, praise and obedience.  

According to the article at Incense in Ancient Rome: Smoke, Ritual, and Power during Roman times "Public ceremonies that required a pinch of incense at an imperial altar made loyalty legible; refusal could be read as defiance. Later accounts of trials emphasize the act of “sacrificing” by incense before images—a minimal but decisive test."  Christians refusing to worship the Roman gods, and placing a pinch of incense on an imperial altar with the image of the emperor on it (statue) were arrested, tortured, and executed. They became martyrs for their faith in the Lord God.

In more modern times, the Muslims prostrate themselves and pray 5 times a day in worship of their god, Allah. So worship of the Antichrist Beast's image may very well include prostrating ones self in front of the Beast's image to worship it, and anyone not worshipping the image of the Beast will be killed according to Rev. 13:15.  The image of the Beast could be on one's computer screen with a two way camera in their home where one is required to worship, or it could be on large screens in public places with two way cameras so that everyone complies.

However, I also don't think anyone is going to be given the mark of the Beast before worshipping the image of the beast because according to Rev. 14:6-13 there is a clear warning by the angels in these verses below of what will happen to those worshipping the beast and his image and receiving the mark in their forehead or in their hand. There would be no point of the angels warning anyone after the fact that they had worshipped the beast and his image and had received the mark of the beast in their forehead or right hand in in order to buy and sell. The warning to not worship the beast and his image and not to receive the mark of the Beast will be given before anyone actually is required to worship the Beast and his image.

Rev. 14:6-13, "And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of theLamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them."

This last verse shows the martyrs are blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth (meaning "that time on" or "from now on" after the angels' warnings about not worshipping the Beast and his image).
