US Will Send ATACMS Missiles to Ukraine, Says
WSJ
The US is very close to making a decision to send
long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine, the Wall Street
Journal reports, citing US and European officials.
According to the sources, the provision of ATACMS to Ukraine
still needs to be approved "at the highest level".
However, there are visible signs that the White House, which
has refused to send long-range weapons to Kiev, has begun to
change its attitude, as it "realizes the urgency to support
Ukraine in the struggle in the coming weeks."
As a Ukrainian official told the Wall Street Journal, in
recent weeks "Kiev has received positive signs that the US
has changed its stance on ATACMS."
The US Army's ATACMS tactical missile systems are
surface-to-surface missiles with a range of about 300
kilometers, about four times longer than the missiles used
by the HIMARS systems.
The Biden administration has explained to the Ukrainian side
that the reluctance to send longer-range missiles is based
on the fact that there are too few of them in the stocks of
the US military.
