i believe that this passage is God showing us that the temple will be built and that the temple grounds alone and those who worship within it would belong to the Israelis for the first 42 months. the other grounds would belong to the Gentiles, which could mean co existing with the Muslim mosque beside it for awhile.  Notice the colon which says they  will tread down the old city for 42 months. this could mean the second 42 months .The colon representing a different time period. . As in, the temple built the first part of the first 42 months , in peace, then enters  the Anti-Christ, who stops the sacrifices and oblations,sending the Israelis to flee the city .therefore allowing it to be trodden on by the Gentiles for the second of 42 months, while they are not there...Notice also, once again, there seems to be only two sets of people here involved ,the Jews and the gentiles...where is any mention of the Christians?  The fullness of the Gentiles would be then fulfilled at the battle of Armegeddon and the second coming. I believe this fullness is the fullness and COMPLETE revealing of all that they have done in secret, the fullness of their sin ,the revealing of all the abominable creations of theirs , all their cards will be laid out for all to see ,,an army that they've built to fight our lord Jesus Christ and His army, the ones who ride with him at his second coming . I believe a picture of this  battle is shown in CS Lewis' book "The LION, the witch and the wardrobe" and The Lord of the Rings'''  , except the technology will be greater, the evil will be greater, the giants will be bigger, and the stench will be worse.   but, they forgot one thing, they are the creature , battling the creator. and just like David, he pulls out the one thing that can defeat them ALL, the STONE He throws at them, HIS WORD.....''I AM''.....
