"Tu B' Av:The Fruit of the Vine: Matthew 26, Mark 14, and Luke 22"

Dear Doves,

The Master spoke three times of not drinking of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes, in Matthew 26:29, Mark 14:25, and Luke 22:18. Only in Matthew is the mentioning of "that day when I drink it new with you" which gives us a seasonal clue concerning wine, which is what one would drink of the fruit of the vine. When in Israel either old or modern would the wine be new, the new wine? The date associated symbolically with the beginning of the grape harvest and therefore the first of the wine, the new wine, would be the date of Av 15, Tu B' Av. In days of old when there was the First or Second Temple in Jerusalem, the unmarried girls would wear white and go to the VINEYARDS and dance on this joyous day. It was one of the happiest days of the year, associated with love, romance and wedding. The bride and groom traditionally drink from the fruit of the vine (grapes turned into wine) during the wedding ceremony beneath the chuppah.
The earliest of the grapes, and therefore the first of the new wine would be Av 15. This year on the Hillel Calendar Av 15 will be 7-21 to 22. The date of 7-22 will feature the Star of David alignment. Might Tu B' Av be momentous in 2013? We shall see.

With Love and Shalom,
Jean
