I do not agree with R.A. Coombes that Babylon is the USA.

Literal Babylon is in “a dry land and a desert”. The USA has some desert areas, but has so many farm fields, woodlands, lakes and mountains that the nation is not characterized as a desert.

THE LAND OF THE CHALDEANS

 

Jer 50:2 is the verse I saw a rectangle of light on in a darkened room at twilight. It is talking about the “land of the Chaldeans”, which was Babylon, now in Iraq.

 

Jer 50:1-16 (KJV) says,  “The word that the LORD spake against Babylon and against the land of the Chaldeans by Jeremiah the prophet. 2 Declare ye among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and conceal not: say, Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces. 3  For out of the north (Russia) there cometh up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they shall remove, they shall depart, both man and beast. 4  In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: they shall go, and seek the LORD their God. 5  They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward, saying, Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten. 6  My people hath been lost sheep: their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their restingplace. 7  All that found them have devoured them: and their adversaries said, We offend not, because they have sinned against the LORD, the habitation of justice, even the LORD, the hope of their fathers. 8 Remove out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he goats before the flocks. 9  For, lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country (Russia): and they shall set themselves in array against her; from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of a mighty expert man; none shall return in vain. 10  And Chaldea shall be a spoil: all that spoil her shall be satisfied, saith the LORD. 11  Because ye were glad, because ye rejoiced, O ye destroyers of mine heritage, because ye are grown fat as the heifer at grass, and bellow as bulls; 12  Your mother shall be sore confounded; she that bare you shall be ashamed: behold, the hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert. 13  Because of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate: every one that goeth by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues. 14  Put yourselves in array against Babylon round about: all ye that bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows: for she hath sinned against the LORD. 15  Shout against her round about: she hath given her hand: her foundations are fallen, her walls are thrown down: for it is the vengeance of the LORD: take vengeance upon her; as she hath done, do unto her. 16  Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him that handleth the sickle in the time of harvest: for fear of the oppressing sword they shall turn every one to his people, and they shall flee every one to his own land.”

These scholars I have listed discuss Future Babylon and her Mother who is sorely confounded. Without a doubt America had a Mother, and If there is a nation that fulfills this, I would have to say England.

 

TOWER OF BABEL “IN THE LAND OF SHINAR”

 

Gen 11:1-9 says,  “And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. 2  And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar (i.e., Babylon); and they dwelt there. 3  And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. 4  And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. 5  And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. 6  And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. 7  Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. 8  So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. 9  Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.”

 

HEADQUARTERS OF THE WORLD UNIVERSAL CHURCH TO BE MOVED TO THE LAND OF SHINAR

 

Zech 5:5-11 says, “Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth. 6  And I said, What is it? And he said, This is an ephah (i.e., symbol of the world UNIVERSAL church) that goeth forth. He said moreover, This is their resemblance through all the earth. 7  And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this is a woman (symbol of a religious group) that sitteth in the midst of the ephah. 8  And he said, This is wickedness. And he cast it into the midst of the ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof. 9  Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women (i.e., two religious groups), and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven. 10  Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Whither do these bear the ephah? 11  And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar (Babylon): and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base” (i.e., the foundation of the Tower of Babel).

 

Rev 17:3-11 says, “So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness (eremos, desert): and I saw a woman (i.e., a church group) sit upon a scarlet coloured beast (great red dragon, Satan), full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4  And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: 5  And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. 6  And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. 7  And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns. 8  The beast that thou sawest (Satan) was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition (i.e., Satan will go into the False Prophet Mid-Trib): and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was (i.e., in Judas Iscariot), and is not (i.e., in man now), and yet is (exists). 9  And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains (Rome), on which the woman sitteth. 10  And there are seven kings: five are fallen (leaders of Babel, Babylon II, Media-Persia, Greece, Holy Roman Empire), and one is (Antichrist, head of the Ecclesiastical Roman Empire), and the other (Babylon III) is not yet come; and when he (False Prophet, son of perdition) cometh, he must continue a short space (i.e., the shortened Great Tribulation). 11  And the beast (Satan) that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition” (i.e., Satan will enter into the False Prophet, the 2nd son of perdition, the first was Judas Iscariot).

 

Rev 17:18 says, “the woman (religious group) which thou sawest is that great city (i.e., VATICAN CITY), which reigneth over the kings of the earth.” It will be moved to the desert, Babylon.

 

This city, Babylon III, will be destroyed by an asteroid impact. Rev 18:21 says, “And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.” I think it will become the Lake of Fire.

Upon reading your response the first scripture which came to mind was Jeremiah 50:12 "Your Mother shall be sore confounded, she that bore you shall be ashamed, the last of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land and a desert" If I am not mistaken Nimrod is given credit for being the founder or Father of Ancient Babylon. I don't ever remember reading about her having a Mother? These scholars I have listed discuss Future Babylon and her Mother who is sorely confounded. Without a doubt America had a Mother, and If there is a nation that fulfills this, I would have to say England. She has been "sorely confounded" most of my life. I googled this before I started this reply. I am more familiar with R A Coombes studies. It has been a few years since I looked at Dr. Van Impe and Joseph Good's material. Here is a list of 60 Reasons, Why it is not Iraq or Ancient Babylon. I would add one other caveat, if it possibly could be Old Babylon then there has to be an unbelievable amount of things that will have to transpire, If Jesus is soon to come as we expect.
