Hello Sandra, there is great falling away from truth in the world now, that's for sure.
The greek word for falling away is apostasia which means departure, some say it's a departure from the faith while some say it's the rapture - departure of the church.
I think verses 7&8 shows that the departure is not of the faith because it's called "he", whereas the Holy Spirit, or Holy Spirit filled body of Christ could be called "he".

KJV 2Th 2:3  Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

2Th 2:7  For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
2Th 2:8  And then shall that Wicked be revealed,
Verse 3 the man of sin is revealed after the falling away.
Verse 7&8 the wicked will be revealed after "he" be taken out of the way.

Hi John.  I thought you might find this interesting.  John Piper, well-known pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, identifies the apostasy in TH 9:12 to mean a falling away from the truth by those who once held it.

So the question is:  Why do so many Christians leave the truth and follow falsehood?  Here's why according to Piper:

    Paul's answer at the end of verse 10 is that they refuse to love the truth (literally: they did not welcome a love for the truth). Notice: it is not merely an issue of knowing or believing in a merely mental sense: it is an issue of loving (the truth).  Look at verse 12: " . . . so that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness." The opposite of believing the truth is delighting in evil.

    And this means that saving faith--faith that will endure to the end through the affliction now and through the apostasy to come--is not merely an accepting of truth but a loving of truth. Verse 10: "They perish because they refused to love the truth."
