So why?

Epstein was known for hosting huge parties with the rich and famous, underage girls and recording in every room without the attendees knowing it.

At that point he knew he had blackmail material on EVERYONE that would make him rich. 

It's a much deeper rabbit hole than that, but I will leave the issue to your discretion.
